Riley Montgomery is the Unit Chief of the FBI’s Asia Cyber Operations Unit where he leads the FBI’s efforts against cyber threats emanating from Asia. Mr. Montgomery joined the FBI as a Special Agent in 2015, and was assigned to the New York Field Office after completing training at the FBI Academy in Quantico, VA. In New York, Mr. Montgomery led counterintelligence investigations focused on North Korea. Mr. Montgomery then transferred to the San Francisco Field Office where he led several high-profile cyber investigations, including the 2020 hack of Twitter and the ransomware attack against Colonial Pipeline. In 2021, Mr. Montgomery was promoted to Supervisory Special Agent in the Major Cyber Crimes Unit at FBI Cyber Division where he led the FBI’s efforts against ransomware until he was promoted to Unit Chief in 2023.
