Peter Jaquez was appointed as Deputy Executive Assistant Commissioner (DEAC) for Enterprise Services (ES) at U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) on November 3, 2024. In this role, he serves over 4,000 ES personnel at nearly 500 locations across the United States, providing mission-critical support to all CBP employees and operations. The ES portfolio executes $5B annually in procurement for CBP and includes 72 acquisition programs, demos, and investments with a Life Cycle Cost Estimate at $66B, more than 5,700 facilities, over 24,000 vehicles, $8B in property assets, over 3,500 hiring actions per year, 13 Academies and Centers at 7 locations nationwide, and an IT infrastructure supporting over 65,000 users and 26 missionessential systems. Mr. Jaquez brings a wealth of leadership experience to his role, most recently having served as the Executive Director (XD) of CBP Workforce Care.
In his role as XD, Mr. Jaquez was responsible for overseeing the development of CBP Workforce Care initiatives and programs; fostering direct connectivity to over 65,000 uniformed and nonuniformed employees and their families; bringing to fruition the agency’s goal of raising awareness of the availability of well-being services; and directing the quality and delivery of these services to the largest law enforcement agency in the United States. During his tenure, Mr. Jaquez successfully implemented CBP’s Suicide Prevention, Intervention, and Postvention Directive, training over 1,000 instructors who have delivered annual in-person Suicide Prevention and Awareness training to nearly the entire CBP workforce.
He previously held various leadership positions in the U.S. Border Patrol (USBP), including Patrol Agent in Charge at the El Paso Station, El Paso Sector, Texas; Associate Chief of Specialty Programs within the Law Enforcement Operations Directorate; and Interim Deputy XD for Mission Readiness Operations at USBP Headquarters. In October 2022, he was appointed as the Acting Chief Patrol Agent, El Paso Sector.
Mr. Jaquez, a longtime member of the CBP Executive Leadership Team, began his career with the 328th session of USBP in January 1997, where he was assigned to Van Horn Patrol Station, in what is now known as Big Bend Sector, Texas, as a border patrol agent, followed by being assigned to various sectors, including Marfa, El Paso, Tucson, and Yuma.
Mr. Jaquez is a graduate of the CBP Leadership Institute. Before joining USBP, he served four years in the U.S. Navy as a member of the Submarine Service. A native of El Paso, Texas, he dedicates his time to his family and enjoys movie nights at home or the theater. To stay mobile and manage work/life balance, Mr. Jaquez avidly rides a mountain bicycle in his spare time.
