Michael Weissman serves as the Chief Data Officer (CDO) for the DHS Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO). In this role, he oversees data management as a strategic asset for DHS. This includes identifying opportunities, threats, capabilities, and gaps in the Department’s data landscape; developing data management policies and procedures; and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. Mr. Weissman has helped define and shape a data culture that makes DHS data appropriately discoverable and accessible through secure, modernized systems and standards.
Previously, Mr. Weissman served as the Human Resources Information Technology (HRIT) Technical Liaison for the Office of the Chief Human Capital Officer where he was responsible for providing executive level guidance and recommendations to DHS’s Chief Information and Chief Human Capital Officers for information technology and human capital solutions, and where he developed, implemented, and operated as part of the HRIT portfolio.
In this position, he created mutually beneficial relationships with all DHS Component HRIT groups by establishing new parameters for collaborative efforts, spearheading enterprise solutions and serving as a reliable partner for all HRIT stakeholders.
Prior to joining the OCIO executive leadership team, Mr. Weissman worked in the Digital Services Directorate and successfully led cross disciplinary project teams that included the development and deployment of two COVID vaccine tracking systems in partnership with the Solutions Development Directorate and Human Capital Business Systems, the Family Unification Website Task Force, and Operation Allies Welcome.
Mr. Weissman earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Graphics Communications from New York University. He also holds technical and training certifications in IT Infrastructure, Big Data, Data Base Applications and Varied Data Analysis Tools.
