Mr. Jay Alalasundaram currently holds the Senior Executive Service position of OIT Deputy Assistant Commissioner (DAC), Software Applications and Services (SAS), and Chief Software Officer. Software Applications and Services provides comprehensive technical support in the areas of software application development, operations, and maintenance for border enforcement, passenger, and cargo processing, targeting and analysis, and management systems solutions to include seamless delivery of new technology solutions that enable the processing of legitimate trade and travel and enhance CBP’s enforcement capabilities by screening travelers and cargo at U.S. ports of entries and checkpoints operating at 24/7/365 to support frontline officers and agents.
Prior to this role, Mr. Alalasundaram served as the Executive Director, Passenger Systems Program Directorate (PSPD), Office of Information and Technology (OIT), Enterprise Services since March 2021. He directed PSPD’s core mission to deliver and sustain technology solutions to facilitate legitimate travel into and out of the United States. Some of his recent successes include developing and delivering IT systems to support the timely Processing of Refugees from Afghanistan for Operation Allies Refuge/Operation Allies Welcome (OAR/ OAW) and processing of Ukrainian evacuees during Uniting for Ukraine (U4U).
Mr. Alalasundaram previously served as Deputy Executive Director of the Cargo Systems Program Directorate in OIT, where he directed the IT operations for the DHS Level 1 Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) Program, the primary CBP information technology system that facilitates the electronic importation and exportation of goods into and from the United States.
Mr. Alalasundaram holds a Bachelor of Science degree and a Masters Certificate in Information Technology Program Management. In 2019, he received the prestigious DHS Information Technology Professional of the Year award.
