Henry “J.” Powell IX grew up in the Maryland and Virginia area, and in support of customer demand, has moved several times to include journeys overseas, Texas, and Florida in support of customer requirements.
He has spent over 30 years in the Department of Defense and Intelligence Community as both a government employee and a contractor, and at one time owned his own company focused on infrastructure security and software development.
J. is the VP/CTO of GDIT’s Intelligence and Homeland Security Division. In his previous roles he served as the Sr. Director of Solutions Architecture and Director of Programs in the Defense group CTO organization, focused on DoD and Intelligence Community solutions for large programs and proposals and executive leadership on running programs. In addition, his duties also included the leadership of the Integrated Innovation Center (IIC) and the Early Career Talent Program (ECTP). He is also honored to hold the additional title of distinction of GDIT Distinguished Technologist for his technical leadership and expertise to include the strategic development of talent.
He leads ongoing innovation initiatives that explore emerging technologies, assesses their application to the client and company business needs, and implements new strategies and solutions.
J.’s educations pursuits started at UMBC in the Pre-Med program / Medical Sociology dual major and adjusted his focus to include his passion for computer security, infrastructure, data sciences, and software development which triggering a transition to Information Technology major and graduated from Trinity College and University.
