Erick Reese began his professional career in 1998 with the United States Air Force, following the military, he worked in the private sector for several years before joining Customs and Border Protection (CBP) as a Border Patrol Agent in 2008. Over the last fifteen years, Mr. Reese has conducted frontline operations along the land and maritime border as well as managed several multi-agency and cross-functional teams. From 2016 through 2019 Mr. Reese led numerous national and regional border security efforts to include protection of high-profile infrastructure, binational coordination, and allocation of Department of Defense (DoD) and National Guard resources on the southern border.
In 2019, he was a recipient of the Department of Homeland Security’s Award for Excellence for his efforts as Deputy Area Commander in San Diego, addressing and mitigating the Central American mass migrant caravan threat. For the last three years, Mr. Reese has served with the CBP Innovation Team (INVNT) under the Office of the Commissioner and has led the United States Border Patrol (USBP) INVNT for the last two years. Assistant Chief Reese currently oversees the innovation portfolios for both USBP and CBP Air and Marine Operations (AMO). Mr. Reese holds a graduate degree from the Naval War College with a Master of Arts in Defense and Strategic Studies with an emphasis in Leadership and Ethics.
